That Time the Baby Turned 2

February 28, 2017

I don't know what kind of voodoo was put on us, but I was pregnant something like a week ago and then BAM I have a 2 year old.

Really though, how does time pass by so fast?

Since today was little dudes birthday, and since his G (oldest grandchild turned Gigi into G, I'm working on getting it back to Gigi... said GG) got us zoo passes for our birthdays we went to the zoo. Our neighbors even went with us.

The picture below is even from today, and if you know me you know it's insane that I even got this picture up the same day. Heck it's a Christmas miracle that this post didn't go up tomorrow.

While we're at it let's do an old fashioned monthly update post so I can remember this mess a few years from now.

Weight: something like 28lbs

Length/Height: oh gosh who knows, he's not the 90th percentile though I can tell you that much.

Eyes: Hazel

Hair: Brown with a little red tint in the sun

Clothes: 24 months to 2T and even 3T pajamas

Diapers: size 5

Likes: peanut butter, yogurt, Cherrios, bananas, wraps, and his favorite word ever... King Cake

Dislikes: anything I think he would like at the moment & transitions. Such as going to take a bath... then getting out of the bath.

Eating: Whatever suits his fancy these days. The toddler food ideals are trying to creep in.

Sleeping: all night!!!

Milestones: Starting to talk more. He only says what really matters to him, like king cake. He says a few animals and sounds. Right now "no" is the favorite and he likes to say "yaaas" when you say no. Funniest right now is definitely cow, said "chow."

If I had to describe our 24th month in one word, it would be: hilarious, he has a sense of humor and uses it

Mommy notes: The child is obsessed with socks, he would prefer to be naked but would like to have socks on.  Harrison also loves Sesame Street & Clifford.

Now, because I can. Here's the comparison photo for the day he was born, 1 year, and two years today.

An Ode to It CC Cream

February 22, 2017

Oh dearest It Cosmetics,

How it's taken me so long to commit to you I'll never know. Like seriously, can we be besties? I'll even model your products on QVC.

I've heard people rave about you for years and thought "That's just too expensive." I assumed my BB cream worked just fine. Let me admit to you right now that it did not in fact "work just fine." In fact I was unaware of what working actually was.

I thought the sample you sent of the regular CC was good, I was living a lie. The illuminating makes my skin look like the skin of someone who hasn't been married, had a job, and worse yet for the skin... a kid.

I love my kid but let's face it, I now have more wrinkles and much more uneven skin. Like who does this skin belong to? I woke up convinced I missed the bus just the other day. How is it I'm in fact old enough to drive a bus?

I digress...

You're pretty awesome It. I may never use another product again. The fact that you contain all the serums I'm already rubbing on my face is just the frosting on the cake. At 30ish I can't afford to not work on wrinkle removal and prevention on the daily.

Well my short crazed reason I need a CC cream is throwing Goldfish crackers around the living room. I'll be using you again tomorrow morning.

Much love,

Emily

Meal Pinning Monday

February 20, 2017

We're on the verge of Mardi Gras break, so the menu is a little short. I'll go ahead and warn you that next week might be more like a meal pinning Tuesday to Sunday. Just saying.
[What is Meal Pinning Monday?]
MPM is how I meal plan for our little family. I once spent a lot of time searching the web and my recipe books hunting for new recipes and ideas for what to cook every week. Then, Pinterest came along and made meal planning much easier for me. Every weekend I look over what I have pinned the prior week and decide what I would like to cook and make my grocery list from these recipes. MPM came about as a way to share what I am cooking, and to also see what others are cooking every week to hopefully get even more dinner ideas from other bloggers. If you don't pin your recipes feel free to just share what you are cooking.

Monday - Eggs, Bacon, Toast, & Cheese Grits

Tuesday - Cheeseburger Skillet (this is my favorite meal on earth right now)

Wednesday - Puerto Rican Chicken with Avocado Salad, Roasted Potatoes, & Mojo Sauce

Thursday - Leftover Chicken in Quesadillas

Currently Feb.

February 15, 2017

Current book: Candace Bure Dancing Through Life & I started working through the new Kelly Minter study All Things New on 2 Corinthians.
Current music: Not much, does that fact that the playlist from the Country Heat workout that won't leave my head count?
Current [non]-guilty pleasure: Makeup, it's taken me years to get into it but I've been having fun lately.

Current drink: LaCroix, what else. Water?
Current food: This salad was amazing. I need to figure out how to store anchoives so I can make it more often.

Current obsession: Working out again, not like obsessively though. I'm just having fun with it. I went to a Minnesota Power Yoga class a few days ago and fell in love. YOD was amazing.
Current craving: That camping trip we are talking about over Mardi Gras break.
Current need: More time in the day.
Current indulgence: Pots de Creme. My hubby loves it.
Current bane of my existence: Apparently burning the cane wasn't enough, they're also burning the marshes... hence a baby will insane allergies.
Current procrastination: Laundry
Current confession: I might have cleaned the baseboards in the guest bath with a baby wipe the other night during Harrison's bath time.
Current quote: Oh dang. Don't have one.
Current excitement: 2nd birthday is coming up, we'll forget that my 31st is a hot minute before his. I did get my birthday present early so that was exciting. It was a new Fitbit, my Flex wasn't holding a charge so I upgraded to the Alta.

I'll be honest, I got the Ultra when it came out and then the Flex and so on. I don't get the need for the big ones. It's too bulky. My main reason for the Alta was that it combined my Flex with what I missed about the Ultra plus a bit more. Also... the interchangeable leather straps. Winning.

Current mood: Great. Stayed home with Harrison today because our sitter's son has the flu. It was nice pretending to stay home, take him to the library, and then wander Lowe's looking for new plants for the garden. I managed to get in both my workouts today and ate lunch without anyone talking to me. Glorious!

Meal Pinning Monday

February 12, 2017

This is probably my favorite week of the year. Not because I'm that Valentine wife that wants flowers and stuff, no my only request now for years has been that Jeremy grill ribeyes.

That's it, give me a ribeye twice a year with a really good dessert and I'm a happy camper.

Things That Make Me Say Yay

February 4, 2017

The toddler is destroying the house at the moment, but whatever. I've been trying to be consistent with a TTMMSY post on a Friday for a month. I think they're officially going to have to be a Saturday thing.

This past weekend we broke out the camping equipment for the first time and tested out how well the toddler would tolerate it. Turns out it went great and I honestly can't wait until Mardi Gras break, we have a few days where there's nothing planned and I'd like to go to a camp ground.

Honestly, I think I sleep better outside in the tent.

I need to decide what I want to fill the space in my garden that the winter cucumber never filled. On the up side though, my carrots and beets are on their way & the cauliflower is starting to regrow after the terrible horrible no good very bad freeze of 2017.

Also, I think my strawberry roots are sprouting.

What are my gardener friends planting this Spring?

I've been Beach Body-ing it lately, the containers have been great for portion control. It'll definitely give me an idea of how much to eat when I go full on Paleo again. After pregnancy and 18 months of nursing I lost perception of what a serving was.

Plus the Country Heat workout is so fun, and on certain days it works my legs out enough that they are sore... not just a cardio burn for 30 minutes.

Today I made some more Fire & Ice Pickles. Y'all they're divine. If you want to see how I made them head on over to Snapchat and watch my story, you'll have to get past last nights joking rant about not wearing makeup and real clothing to work yesterday first.

Also, for my non social media followers, our chemo patients, yes patients... we're apparently collecting them now, were told they were in partial remission this week. Dad isn't celebrating just yet, but I'm excited simply because in 3 years those words have never been said. He's had things removed, and cells not grow, but shrinking is a new deal. He started a new drug that isn't actually chemo a few months ago that has zero side effects. Granted the man isn't suddenly a marathon runner, but it means we've got him around a bit longer.
