Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to Rome We Go.

November 29, 2011

In less than two weeks we will be boarding a plane headed for Rome.

While I am so excited about this adventure, especially since it is the first one like it as a married couple, I am also terrified. You see, when I went to England 10+ years ago I was sick as a dog the entire trip. I never felt nausea, but the smell of food immediately make me start up chucking my life out. I can't stop worrying that that will happen again, and that I will not enjoy the trip quite as much.

While reading the Duggar book this past week I saw something Michelle Duggar said about wearing Sea Bands and thought "I have those!" So after an immense amount of digging through my old high school stuff I uncovered my pressure bracelets. I also realized that while flying I never once felt sick (I had the bracelets on constantly), but within an hour of exiting the plane the puking started. So just in case I will be wearing those Sea Bands for the whole trip haha!

Switching gears...packing mania is about to start. I am a planner and a week before we leave I plan to start packing. I hope to fit all of our stuff into two backpacks/carry-ons and a rolling duffle. I have heard rolling up your clothes gives you more room, but I think I will take the gallon zippy bag route in order to organize by day and then put the dirty clothes back in for safe keeping. I also plan to take a small thing of detergent so I can wash undies in the sink at night.

Well I planned to make this post longer, but Jeremy just got home from class and need the lap top to start taking his finals. If you have any international travel tips please PLEASE share them in the comment section:)

A Christmas Card Time of Year

November 28, 2011

It is that time of year again in our little household...the time where I constantly try to bribe Jeremy into taking a Christmas picture with me. I imagine it will be much easier once we have kids, but these days it takes a lot of convincing. Luckily he is totally game this week, yay me!

We decided to get our cards from Tiny Prints this year and I can honestly say this is becoming quite the tough choice. Knowing that the picture and color quality are a shoe in, and that the paper will be stellar, it has now been narrowed down to a few specific cards.
Be Merry

Folksy Delight
I am always a sucker for old fashioned looking anything.

Colorful Collar
This card totally plays into my new love of chevron.

Colorful Wreath
Love the shape of this one! So unique.

Painted Berries

Ornament Delight

So tell me which one y'all like best! I honestly can not wait to order our cards in one of these awesome prints!

Check out the lovely holiday cards at Tiny Prints! If you haven't already ordered your cards, like me, you won't be disappointed:)

FITBF

November 25, 2011

www.thelittlethingswedo.blogspot.com
1.   Waking up at the break of dawn to go shopping is my idea of     sheer holiday happiness, I'm the black Friday queen. It is quite traditional that I get the list of what everyone wants and I fight the lines. This why everyone gets what they want, and I get to shop.   .

2.   If I were to go shopping today I would be on the hunt for   blue jeans, kitchen stuff , a video game for Jeremy, and memory cards for the camera.       .

3.  The best thing I ate yesterday was    apple cider brined turkey and black ham   .

4. Something I've been learning lately is    procrastination is not the best policy. This week went by fast and I still have the 3rd 9wks lesson plans to write   .

5.  I cannot start my day without    gummy vitamins  .

6.  My nighttime attire consists of   a racer back sequined nightgown from Target that I got for 2 bucks. It hits mid thigh and it cotton-only sequins on the straps. .

7.  I am looking forward to    heading to Monroe with the girls today to shop  .

Reasons why throw pillows should be left off the couch.

November 20, 2011

I hope everyone is having a great weekend, I know all the teachers in the universe are rejoicing over this week break! With other jobs I've had a few days for Thanksgiving was fine, but with education it seems like everyone I know is burned slap out by now...even the kiddos!  So next to seeing family, there is nothing I am more thankful for than a few days to sleep in and recoup.

My Mom has been down this weekend while we Christmas shopped, well, while she did. I only bought for one dude for Christmas. I just don't see the point in buying everyone junk they can buy themselves when we are going to Italy in 3 weeks. If you get a gift from me rest assured it is from either Rome or Naples. Not Target-nothing again it thought:)

However, with Mom being in town a new issue presented itself yesterday morning. And no, there aren't any pictures of this fiasco. While getting ready to go shopping I waltzed into the bathroom, disrobed, and while stuck in the corner of our tiny L shaped bathroom I noticed a huge green lizard sitting on Mom's luggage on my counter. I couldn't get out. While standing there totally naked on the verge of a panic attack I had two options 1) run out naked and risk being touched by a lizard, or 2) hide in the shower and yell hoping the lizard wouldn't run away. This presented yet another problem...could they hear me? Needless to say Mom heard me and got Jeremy to come catch the small gator sized reptile, but I did not enjoy my shower nearly as much as usual. Jeremy, always the one to inform me later for his own sanity, decided to tell me that he caught one like it in the living room the other day. Oh joy!

Needless to say I am already planning my exodus from South Louisiana soon. Too bad I have to wait two more years for it to come.

In other interesting news I made a eye doctor appointment a few weeks ago for December 1st,  and in good time. I knew my vision was getting worse, even with glasses. But today proved that I am blind as a bat. This morning while Mom was cooking breakfast I saw Ellie on the couch and yelled at her to get off. When she refused to move I beat on the counter to attempt to get her attention, it works sometimes.

Then I realized something...I was yelling at a throw pillow.

If that right there doesn't prove I can't see jack I don't know what would. I really don't understand how my vision is deteriorating so quick, when I was 20 I had perfect vision. Now I can't see the clock without my glasses, and I am fussing at throw pillows for being on the couch.

Could this be foreshadowing for how I will be in my 80's? I think so.

At 80 I predict I will be the old lady in the nursing home running around naked because I thought a pens was a  lizard and bossing my new boyfriend (because we all know men die early and Jeremy is older already haha) around about his eating habits.

Lord help me I think I aged 30 years this morning yelling at that pillow.

Jazz Half Marathon/5K

November 15, 2011

A few weeks ago we went to New Orleans Halloween weekend and ran in the Jazz Halfmarathon. Well, Jeremy ran the half, I opted for the 5k. You couldn't drag me tied up behind a truck for a half marathon. However every time I say I am not a runner while I am wearing the new running shoes Jeremy agreed to let me get he gives me an awful glare. But let's face it, some people just don't run unless they are being chased.

I for one an a only run when being chased person.
How do y'all like those hot orange gloves? Hot right?!? I didn't think much of the ugly things until we got the pics back. Jeremy handed them to me before we started running because it was cold and told me to trash them if I got hot. Needless to say I didn't put them on until I was waiting on him to finish (for an hour) in the cold and needed them. Then I pranced on over to have my picture made all rag muffined out with these sexy gloves! Gag. It looks like pumpkins are crawling out of my jacket.

During the race I only ran to keep the couple in front of me from not finishing before me. Yes I found motivation by creating mental vendettas with total strangers. And I won't lie, when old ladies started to pass me I picked up the pace. All of which helped this non-runner to finish middle of the 5K in under 45 minutes averaging 12 min/mile. I didn't even know I had a goal until I started falling out of the first group, then I picked up and ran.

Jeremy did much better than I did, but the guy is a natural runner. His goal was to finish in 2 hours, and he did it in 2 hr and 9 minutes. Without walk/running like I do:)

Poor thing is running a full marathon in December. Hope he survives, the best runners we know claim full marathons are no fun at all. I will be happily watching at the finish when he comes in, until then I will be sleeping. No senese in getting up to sit around for 5 hours and wait.

So do you run? If you do what are some good running tips?

{the least surprising verdict on prime time}

November 7, 2011

Who else heard the Conrad Murray verdict today?

I honestly was not surprised that they found him guilty. But honestly there were a lot of guilty people here. Michael Jackson supposedly took things without Murray "knowing" and let's not forget that dermatologist that got him hooked on demerol. Of all things to get hooked on though, demerol? It makes me sick. Sick sick.

However, I expected more emotion from Murray. I would have at least made a face.

I think Latoya Jackson might have expressed enough emotion for everyone involved-she came off as kind of a nut on camera. Personally I thought her little spill after the verdict sounded a bit like an Academy Awards acceptance speech. Crazy.

It really seems to me like money drove this whole ordeal. $100,000 a month to drug up Jackson at home. And let's not forget he was filming a documentary during the trial that reportedly rode in the car with him to the verdict today to get his reaction before hand. All to pay his legal fees. Money money.

Honestly, I didn't want the guy to be found guilty because I was a huge MJ fan growing up (my first album ever was Thriller). So the nuts with that point of view are a bit off to me. I did think Murray should be found guilty due to negligence. He just made mistake after mistake. It didn't help that so much of it was speculatory.

Hopefully this guy get the Paris Hilton treatment and gets to stay in the county jail or house arrest...his high profile-ness would get him taken down quick in the real deal with no security.

Well, what do y'all think? Should he get the Paris treatment, or full blown prison? Was he rightly given the guilty verdict?

FITBF/Show us your life

November 4, 2011

If you are visiting from FITBF it is at the bottom of the post! I thought I would combine two link ups this week and add in Show Us Your Life from Kelly's Korner.

The Show Us Your Life topic this week was Non-Mommy Bloggers, and lets just say that is so so me haha! For those who don't know me here is a little about me:

My name is Emily, I am a teacher and love to cook. I love to eat more though. I blog on daily life and food, sometimes things that irritate me. I love antiques and shopping. Cold weather is the best thing on earth. I adore the scent and taste of coffee...but the caffeine makes me look like a crackhead. I try to eat healthy and workout, but that glorious motivation that lived in me in HS and college has all but gone. My husband and I recently ran in the NOLA Jazz Marathon/5K, it was a blast and I would love to do it again. I have two weenie demons dogs who are currently scratching at the door because they think I left them outside and went to work. With that being said, I got to go to work I am totally running late!

Happy Friday!

1.   My favorite thing about this week was/is     that it got cooler outside again   .

2.   Colder weather makes me   so incredibly happy. I would love fall and winter even without the holidays      .

3.  Three things that make me terribly happy as of late are    good coffee, quality time with husband (we don't see much of each other), and the dogs being on their best behavior   .

4. If I could only wear one kind of shoe for the rest of my life, I'd choose    my ruffle flip flops   .

5.  My personality type is    type A. Things have to be just so and I must have a schedule. But I teach, so that explains my love of agendas and schedules. I just need to know when things are happening. I'm a planner .

6.  I have a serious problem resisting     sweets. I need a 12 step program, Halloween ruined my diet  .

7.  My favorite color to wear is    navy blue, it looks best on me. Or cobalt  .
