2017 In Review

January 5, 2018

As per every single year, here's a recap of what we were up to in 2017.

January

We had a massive (South Louisiana scale) freeze, everything in the garden died except the carrots. Turns out Christmas lights will not save you from freezing temps mixed with rain.

Top 12 Recipe Posts in 2012

December 29, 2012

My blogging revelation this year has seem to come from my amazement over what posts get the most views. Somehow blog posts that I deem space filler and just to talk about life for myself have had an insane amount of hits, where others that I think people will really like get skimmed over. That's the funny thing about blogging. It is so hard to find out just what your readers really want. Of all my years blogging, this one in particular has been especially recipe heavy, but in a good way. It pushes me to not cook the same thing ever week.

Here are my top 12 most pinned recipes from 2012:

12. Thanksgiving Sides We Can't Live Without

11. Pumpkin Better Than...Cake

10. A Less Trashy White Trash Casserole

9. Nutella Hot Chocolate & Tree Decorating with a 2 Year Old

8. Donut Bread Pudding with Chocolate Glaze

7. Greek Quinoa Salad

6. S'mores Cake

5. Lighter Corn Dip

4. Spaghetti Squash Lasagna

3. Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake

2. Cinnamon Roll Casserole

1. Easy Marshmallow Frosting & a Dolled Up Cake Mix

Now for a close runner up that is one of my favorite recipes from the year - Our favorite baked potato ever:)

And for the most viewed blog post of the year...that I have no idea why anyone wanted to read it:

a year in review 2010

December 31, 2010

Is it seriously about to be 2011? I remember the big ordeal over 2000. Apparently time flies.

Anyway:

January:
-We went to visit Jeremy's Dad in TN and roamed around the Amish community, I as always enjoy anything canned or pickled. We also went hiking to a frozen waterfall...which I have zero pictures of because for some reason I didn't take my camera.
- Joshua Liam was born on Jan 10.
-We also celebrated Pop's Birthday and I wanted to have all 71 candles on his cake...needless to say it melted the icing.
February:
-I turned 24. I hate birthday, but Mom took me to get a facial and Jeremy got me a Dippin Dots cake.
- I think it snowed in Feb, maybe Jan. But either way the dogs hated it.
March:
-Hmm....we played with the baby? I honestly can't remember. Oh I got one, Jeremy and I had been together for 2 years.

April:
-We wrapped an entire table at Sage in foil, the server we did it to swore to get revenge on Jeremy.
-1st Easter with the baby.

-We took our beloved motorcycle to Vicksburg to ride around the battlefield for the last time, who would have known then that we would be selling it this past November.

May:
-Jeremy and I went to Galveston for our 1 year anniversary.

-The summer of weddings kicked off and our friends Craig and Kimberly got married. This is us at the 1st of 8 weddings. At least this one was at our home church so we didn't have far to drive...the rest were a bit out of the way.
-Wedding #2 Ryan and Rachel. This could also be considered the high school reunion. Rachel wore my garter because Ryan had forgotten to buy one, this was the beginning of the Traveling Garter.
June:
-Wedding #3 my cousin Michael got married to his long time girlfriend Misty.
-This was also the first long car trip with a baby...hence Jeremy and I don't have children yet. {haha}
-Wedding #4 our friends Ethan and Rebekah got married.
-Baby dedication at FBCV.
-I also start "death by summer school". No one in their right mind should ever cram 5 graduate classes into 2 summer blocks. Luckily June was easier then July.

July:
Wedding #5 Emily and Travis got married. To continue the joke Emily wore my garter as well and continued The Sisterhood of the Traveling Garter.
-Have I mentioned at this point I was swamped with assignmets, I literally had a paper due in a class everyday of the week...and a full blown Psycholoy test about twice a week. And wedding season just kept on rolling on.
-Family reunion whoo hoo! This was also the first time I ever fed a baby in a car, umm gross.

-Wedding #6 my cousin Chris and Brandi got married...yet another long trip with a baby in a car. Hence the lack of baby at our house.
-Wedding #7 Mom and I went to a old friend from youth group Meredith's wedding.
-Jeremy's band played a few places.
August:
-We all went out for sushi to celebrate Jeremy and Ethan's Birthday. I attempted my first layer cake and had to get Ethan's lovely caked skilled wife Bekka to save it.
-Wedding #8 my sister's friend since Pre-K got married! Love Kendra and Colt;) I can't find a pic from the actual wedding, but here is the shower with her bridesmaids.
-Jeremy got hired to teach high school special education in the same parish I teach in. Score! He also started the same grad school program I am in.

September:
-Hmm nothing I can remember. I had my first ULM observation of my internship. Not cool.
-One year anniversary of Nanny's death.
-Seriously we went under a rock that first full month of teaching.

October:
-Trick 'r Trunk, we had a baby in a hotdog costume so we decorated the car to look like a hotdog.

November:
-I got accepted into Kappa Delta Phi. Big deal for me, I didn't graduate with honors in high school or undergrad.
-We went to Fort Worth to visit Jeremy's Mom and Grandparents. While we were there we went to the Ice exhibit and the water garden.

December:
-My Life Group class went to the Deeper Still conference in Birmingham. We had/have been studying James since June and the class goal is/was to memorize it. Beth Moore's assistant found out about it and told Beth. Since Beth is starting a James study in Jan. she wanted to meet us, Yay!
-We also had a first Christmas with a baby in 19 years.
-And Mom made us take twinkied out matchy matchy pictures.

Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

{flashback friday}

July 2, 2010

This is a pic of the girls at Gabby's wedding. Correct me if I'm wrong Gab, but wasn't this December 2005? From left to right: Me, Elise, Gabby, and Brittany. I thought this was only fitting since Gabby and her husband James are about to have baby #2 in a few days. I've been quite open with all my girl friends about wanting a girl and Gab is finally giving me one! I can't wait to meet Sophia in September when they come to LA to visit. Britt {far right} is expecting #2 while we are in Berlin, and she finds out pretty soon if my wish for another girl is going to be fulfilled.

5 days till baby Sophia arrives!

A few years ago our church got a group together and went to Keystone, Colorado to ski and do a little mission work. Great trip, only second to my England mission trip.

{Lane and I, the snow was well over my head but I could only wiggle in there that deep}

{the whole group, well the kid/youth group/college part}

Don't forget, tomorrow the giveaway ends...only because is my one year blogversary! Today is also my cousin Chris's Birthday, so Happy Birthday Chris!

Flashback Friday

**Correction-Pop is right, he went to Little Richard with us. We went to Wayne Newton alone, she fussed at me for liking to travel in workout clothes while she was dressed up really cute.

I wish I had more, or better pictures for that matter for this Flashback Friday...but I don't. Which goes to show I should become one of those overly camera happy people so I have pictures.

Now to the point of this. Have you asked yourself who that man is? Well ask no longer ladies...see the panties on the floor...yes you guessed it ladies, that is Tom Jones. Unlike many people I know I have been to some of the best{and my favorite}concerts with my Nanny. Yes, I'm a sucker for old music, and if Elvis were alive I'd be stalking his fine self right this minute. Last spring I went with Mom, Nanny and Aunt Billie to see Tom Jones at the Paragon Casino...seriously lots of fun. Only one problem, this old coot has a issue with photography. We were convinced he was going to look like some old mummy just because he was so against people bringing cameras into the show. And sadly enough he wasn't the most friendly of the performers I've seen...my Aunt has a signed photo of him from when he preformed in Monroe years ago, and do you know that old man wouldn't sign it again. Don't get me wrong though it was a great show. So good that me and my snuck in camera stood at the stage {once they decided to let people, the security guard stopped a really old lady from tossing her panties on the stage} and took pictures of the man in full zoom because he refused to come to our end. I do regret one thing though, not bringing panties to throw. I mean seriously, who's concert did I think I was going to? You have to toss your undies at Tom Jones...it's tradition. And I am all about sticking to tradition.

Now lets back track a few years to another concert Nanny and I went to, Little Richard. And to Pop's correction he went too. But Little Richard was a blast, we met my Aunt and cousins at the casino and just had all sorts of our usual fun...which mainly included eating, but you have to do what you are good at...and we are good at eating. Little Richard was much more fun than Tom Jones{mainly because he was more friendly, and I am all about meeting any celebrity just to say I did;)}, he is about as flamboyant as it gets, but my cousin Brandi, Peggy, and I got to get on stage and dance...Brandi was taken on stage by us against her will though, but she had fun. Gosh I wish I had pictures. This lead me to Louisiana Bride Rule # 1:

If given the chance, take it. It may not happen ever again.

Because seriously, Little Richard is no spring chicken. How many more chances have I had to get on stage at his concert since then...a big whopping zero!

Now lets travel back a bit farther, say fall 2004. This was my first concert ever, and with my Nanny of course. We went to see Wayne Newton...at the casino. Awesome concert, but the fun we had after was much better. You see, we were staying in the room across the hall from ole Wayne...and we had a master plan to meet him. Allow me to backtrack a bit, the security guard had a big problemo with me trying to get close to the stage to get a good picture, and he apparently didn't forget who the crazy kid with the disposable camera was. Now back to where I was, after the concert Nanny and I hurried back to the room in hopes of beating Wayne there...and we did. Now for the next part of the plan, we were going to look through the peep hole in the door till he showed up then open it{like we were going somewhere, you don't want to seem overly eager when meeting a celebrity ya know}and just happen to "run into" him and get his autograph. Well after a few minutes and some thought we decided that was to creepy and I should just sit in the hall in between out room/the stairs/the elevator and wait to meet him when he came by, all the while Nanny is still peeping out the hole. Well what do you know Wayne come through the elevator and straight towards me{with his wife and body guard}, I decided to stand up and attempt to greet him to our wonderful floor, cause Lord knows I'm not one of those creepy fans who attacks you walking down the hall{haha ok yes I am}. Needless to say the bodyguard remembered me and quickly blocked me like a secret service man would block the president...and honestly what is a 120lb 18yr old gonna do to a way over 6ft tall man, that is right...not a whole lot even if I tried. I at least got to say hi to him, then I turned and walked back to my room, while they were still in the hall...so that way they knew I wasn't creepy, cause I was staying there too. So Mr. Newton knew where we were staying but never came over to hang out, guess we were just way to cool.

I don't care how many concerts I go to, or who I get to see. Nothing will ever top those three. I think about these fun times all the time, the first week of school I had a kid ask me if I had ever heard of Little Richard, which led to this story.

As usual, and in no particular order thanks to blogger uploader thingy here are a few photos from when we went to Rock City back in February. We had a great time and it was also the first time I got to meet his Dad and Sandy.

{two of the Mother Goose poem figurines, I was surprised at how well the pics came out since they were in black light}

{if I remember right this was Lover's Leap}

{Jeremy and I sitting under the mushroom shaped rock}
